DigiTimes: Apple To Build Entry-Level iPhone With Plastic Chassis

After the confusion about whether Apple intends to launch a ‘cheap’ iPhone, Digitime is reporting that the Cuperitino-based company is set to launch such a device before the end of 2013.

The report stated that the ‘Entry-level iPhone’, not ‘cheap iPhone’ will be manufactured with plastic chassis instead of the glass and aluminum currently seen previous models. Apparently the metal parts inside the new iPhone will be visible from outside.

“Apple’s rumored entry-level iPhone reportedly may adopt plastic for its chassis instead of reinforced glass or unibody metal as in the company’s standard iPhone models, to save cost, according to sources from the upstream supply chain,” Ninelu Tu and Joseph Tsai report for DigiTimes. “However, Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) declined to comment on its clients or orders when asked about the report.”

The report also went on to state that:
The rumor in the supply chain is that the inexpensive iPhone chassis supplier will reportedly be a US-based electronic manufacturing service (EMS) provider.

The sources pointed out that the related upstream components for the entry-level iPhone are currently going through validation and the actual product may show up in the market in the second half of 2013.
Can’t wait for Jony iPhone to say that the new iPhone is a, “concentration of the current models instead of a reduction.”
