Apple’s next major iPhone update could be one of the most important software releases in years.
According to a new Bloomberg report, iOS 27 is set to bring a major redesign of Siri, a new system-wide “Search or Ask” experience, upgraded AI tools in Photos, and a more intelligent Camera app. The changes appear to show Apple moving from cautious AI experiments into a much broader rethink of how iPhone users search, edit, create and interact with their devices.
With WWDC 2026 approaching, iOS 27 is shaping up to be the update where Apple Intelligence becomes more visible, more practical and more central to the iPhone experience.
A New Siri Built Around Search, Chat and the Dynamic Island
The biggest change appears to be Siri.
Bloomberg’s report suggests Apple is preparing a redesigned Siri experience that works more like a modern AI assistant. Rather than being limited to short voice commands, Siri could become a richer system-wide interface for asking questions, searching the web and continuing conversations.
One of the most interesting additions is reportedly a new “Search or Ask” feature. Users may be able to swipe down from the top centre of the iPhone screen to open a new Siri-powered interface. This could make Siri feel less like a separate voice assistant and more like a built-in intelligence layer across iOS.
The redesigned interface is also expected to connect closely with the Dynamic Island. That would be a clever move from Apple. The Dynamic Island has often felt useful but underused. If Siri becomes part of that space, Apple could turn it into a more active control point for search, AI responses and quick actions.
Traditional Siri access is not expected to disappear. Users should still be able to speak to Siri or use the side button. The difference is that iOS 27 may give Siri a much stronger visual interface, making it useful even when users do not want to speak out loud.
A Standalone Siri App Could Change How People Use Apple AI
Another major change reportedly coming in iOS 27 is a dedicated Siri app.
This would be a significant shift. For years, Siri has lived mostly in the background of Apple’s operating systems. A standalone app would give Apple a clear home for AI conversations, previous queries, attachments and deeper responses.
In practical terms, this could make Siri feel more like ChatGPT, Gemini or other modern AI assistants — but with Apple’s own privacy-first design and tighter integration with iPhone, iPad and Mac.
For Apple users, this matters because the company already has an advantage that most AI rivals do not: deep access to the operating system. If Apple can combine that access with a genuinely useful Siri app, it could make AI feel less like a separate tool and more like part of everyday iPhone use.
Photos App: New AI Editing Tools Expected
The Photos app is also expected to receive a major AI upgrade.
Bloomberg’s report points to a new AI-focused tools section inside Photos. This would build on Apple’s existing Clean Up feature, which already allows users to remove unwanted objects from images.
The new tools are expected to go further. Reports suggest Apple is working on features that could help users enhance images, extend parts of a photo, and reframe shots using AI. That would bring Apple closer to what Google and Samsung have already been doing with AI photo editing.
This is an important area for Apple. The iPhone is one of the world’s most used cameras, and Photos is where millions of users manage their memories. If Apple can make AI editing simple, private and reliable, it could become one of the most popular parts of iOS 27.
Camera App: Visual Intelligence Moves Into the Main Experience
The Camera app is also expected to gain new AI features.
One of the most interesting reported changes is a new Siri or Visual Intelligence mode inside the Camera app. This could allow users to point the camera at something and ask questions about what they are seeing.
That could be useful in everyday situations. For example, users might point the iPhone at a product, a landmark, a plant, a menu, a document or a repair issue and ask Siri for help. Apple already introduced Visual Intelligence on recent iPhone models, but iOS 27 could make the feature easier to find and more natural to use.
The Camera app is also expected to become more customisable. Users may be able to choose which controls appear in the app and where they are placed. This would be especially useful for people who use the iPhone for photography, video creation, social media or professional content work.
Apple May Let Users Choose Third-Party AI Models
A separate part of Apple’s wider AI strategy is the reported ability to choose outside AI models for some features.
This would be a very Apple-like compromise. Instead of trying to build every AI model itself, Apple could allow users to access different services while keeping the iPhone experience controlled through iOS.
This could mean Apple Intelligence becomes more flexible. Users may eventually be able to choose between Apple’s own models and selected third-party services for tasks such as writing, image generation or advanced search.
For Apple, this approach could help it catch up more quickly in AI while still protecting the simplicity and privacy message that many iPhone users expect.
Why iOS 27 Matters
iOS 27 could be more than another yearly iPhone update. It may be the point where Apple finally gives Siri a clear future.
For years, Siri has fallen behind newer AI assistants. Users have often criticised it for misunderstanding requests, giving limited answers or failing to complete more complex tasks. Apple now appears to be preparing a much bigger reset.
The challenge is execution. Apple users will not simply accept AI features because they are new. They will expect them to be reliable, fast, private and genuinely useful. If Siri still struggles with basic tasks, a new interface alone will not be enough.
However, if Apple gets this right, iOS 27 could make the iPhone feel noticeably smarter. A system-wide Siri search bar, a proper Siri app, smarter Photos editing and Visual Intelligence inside Camera would all make AI part of daily use rather than a separate novelty.
The Tech Storm Take
Apple has always been at its best when it takes complex technology and makes it feel simple. That is the real test for iOS 27.
Other companies have moved faster in artificial intelligence, but Apple still controls the hardware, software, services and user experience across its ecosystem. If it can bring AI into iOS in a way that feels natural, useful and private, it could quickly close the gap.
The reported iOS 27 changes suggest Apple is no longer treating AI as a side feature. Siri, Photos and Camera are core parts of the iPhone experience. Giving them a serious AI upgrade would send a clear message: Apple wants intelligence built into the whole device, not just added on top.
WWDC 2026 could therefore be one of Apple’s most important events in recent years.
