In a research note to investors, Mizuho Securities analyst Abhey Lamba suggests that Apple’s next-generation iPhone could be with us sooner than expected.
According to the report, checks in Asia and Japan indicate that a July introduction of the new lineup is very likely. “The supply chain vendors are getting ready for an earlier ramp up of production versus prior years,” Abhey Lamba said.
“Recently, the company has been introducing new lineup in September time frame whereas the next generation phones could come out in July this year,” Abhey Lamba explains. “The earlier launch will be helpful for Apple as it will ensure significant availability and distribution of the new device during the holiday season.”
In addition to the early launch, the analyst expects Apple to release multiple models of their smartphone. Lamba said his checks reveal that the company could introduce iPhones with display sizes ranging from 4.7″ to 5.5″ versus current size of 4″. Touch ID is also expected to come with more features to support more applications.
And last but not least, Abhey Lamba said the company will release a smartwatch and a next-generation Apple TV later this year.
“While the timing of the launches is uncertain, we would expect these products to be introduced in 2H14,” he said.
