iPad mini Event to Be Held Separately in October

It was rumoured that Apple will be using the 12th September event to debut the next-generation iPhone and iPad mini. However, a recent piece by John Gruber of DaringFireball states that this is unlikely.

He posits:

The problem that occurred to me: I don’t think Apple would want reviews of both a new iPhone and new-size iPad appearing at the same time. Why share the spotlight? Why have another Apple product battling with the iPhone for the top spots in news coverage? So I thought, well, maybe they’d only seed the review units of the iPhone on September 12, with the new-size iPad going into reviewer hands a few weeks later.

But the more I think about it, the less sense it makes for the iPhone to even share the stage at the announcement with any other product. The iPhone is too big, too cool, and garners too much attention — and it’s in Apple’s interest to keep that attention undiluted.

Gruber’s theory was well supported by Jim Dalrymple of The Loop, he said at the time, “Oh that Gruber is a smart fellow.” [pullquote]But the more I think about it, the less sense it makes for the iPhone to even share the stage at the announcement with any other product.[/pullquote]

Fast forward a few days and Gruber’s theory has garner further support. This time AllthingsD is reporting that they have received words from their sources  along the same lines. According to the report, Apple’s next generation iPhone and iPad mini will debut at two separate events this fall.

The report states that, “Only after the next-generation iPhone is out the door and on sale will Apple announce the smaller iPad it’s been working on. That device, which is expected to have a display of less than eight inches, will be uncrated at a second special event, which sources said is currently scheduled for October.”

Next- Generation iPods

There is also another rumour from macotakara.jp, which revealed that in addition to the iPad mini (this is what it will be call apparently) Apple will be debuting new iPod nano and iPod touch. According to the report, ” the next-generation iPod Nano may  come equip with a Wi-Fi antenna on side of that case, and support iTunes Music Cloud in order Apple to provide an iconic product to promote the largest Music Store in the world.”
