Commercial Times: Apple May Delay Introduction of iPhone 5S

Apple’s iPhone 5

According to a Bloomberg report (via China’s Commercial Times), Apple may delay the launch of the iPhone 5S later this year. It was previously reported that the next-generation iPhone will make its debut in September this year.

The cause of the delay is attributed to a redesign of the display from 4-inch to a bigger 4.3-inch retina display screen, the report states.

The company previously scheduled the release for September or October, the Taiwanese newspaper reported, citing unidentified people in the semiconductor industry.

“Apple, the world’s largest technology company, hasn’t released a new handset since last year’s iPhone 5,” Argin Chang reports for  Bloomberg. “While the Cupertino, California-based company’s device is the top-selling smartphone, Samsung Electronics Co. has become the leading provider overall with a variety of products at different prices.”

A cheaper version of the Apple iPhone is expected by the end of the third quarter after chips for the new model started shipment in June. In addition, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing may deliver chips for the iPhone 5S in August, the report said.
