Apple Hunting For A Siri Software Engineer

On January 25, 2013, Apple posted a job opening for a – Siri Software Engineer, with the successful applicant becoming a part of the next big revolution in human‐computer interaction and redefining the smartphone.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has already stated that Siri, your humble virtual personal assistant, is a startegy for the next decade and not just a product. He also made it clear that Apple will be “doubling down” on Siri at D10 last year.

“Siri is one of the most popular features of iPhone 4S,” Cook said at the time. “But there’s more that it can do, and we have a lot of people working on this. And I think you will be really pleased with some of the things you’re going to see over the coming months. We have some cool ideas about what Siri can do. We have a lot going on on this. … Sure, it can be broader, and so forth, but we see unbelievable potential here. We’re doubling down on it.”

 

According to the job description:

[quote] Do you want to be a part of the next big revolution in human‐computer interaction? Are you looking to contribute to a product that is redefining the smartphone? The team is looking for an exceptional engineer to help build out new areas of expertise for Siri, expanding the product’s capabilities for millions of users. You will build these functional areas that integrate both our server platform and iOS client….We need a team player -­‐ you will be collaborating with engineers in several technical areas who have created the entire range of Siri’s capabilities.

…Specific responsibilities include: Designing and implementing natural language interactions and work flow that for provide intelligent user assistance; Integrating live service providers using web services and offline data feeds using database technologies like SQL and Hibernate… Working with design and client-­‐side teams to ensure a great user experience  and Working with localization team to support the Siri experience in multiple languages.[/quote]

Bosker recent post on Siri illustrates that Apple has not exploited Siri’s full potential as yet. However, the above job listing shows that Apple is heading in right direction.
