WhatsApp Is Now Free On iOS

WhatsApp

WhatsApp is one of the first mobile application I’ve reviewed on this blog. WhatsApp is one of the most very underrated messaging service. The App is cross-platform, hence allowing users of various mobile platforms to stay connected.

According to its iTunes page:
WhatsApp Messenger is a cross-platform smartphone messenger currently available for iPhone and all other smartphones. The application utilizes push notifications to instantly get messages from friends, colleagues and family. Switch from SMS to exchange messages, pictures, audio notes and video messages with WhatsApp users at no cost. All features are included without the need for extra in-application purchases.
The free promotion appears to be for a limited time, reduced from $0.99. The move is set to boost the uptake of the app during the festive season when its anticipated that billions of messages will be sent. There is also very good competition from other messaging clients such as  Tweetbot, Viber and Tango,

According to TheNextWeb:
The original draw to WhatsApp on iPhone was that, by spending $0.99 initially, users could save loads of money on SMS fees. However, with the rise of free services like Viber (140 million users) and Tango, WhatsApp is going to be hard-pressed to differentiate itself. Messaging has caught on in Asia especially and a bulk of services, including Line (85 million users),WeChat (approaching 300 million users) and KakaoTalk (70 million users) have gained hefty followings. Apple’s own iMessage has also thrown a wrench in chat services’ plans, though it, of course, isn’t cross-platform.
