• November 13, 2012

Sky has updated their Sky+ app iPhone and iPod with new functionalities.

According to Sky:
We’ve added some amazing new features to the Sky+ app that will change the way you enjoy your Sky TV. With the Sky+ app, you’ll now be able to control what you’re watching on TV using your iPhone or iPod Touch, just like on the iPad version. That includes pausing or rewinding live TV, changing channel, managing your Planner and more, with just a tap or swipe of your finger. Plus we’ve made all the familiar features you love even simpler to use. It’s a fun, convenient and easy way to make the most of Sky+.
Some of the features include:

Use your iPhone as a remote control

Let the new Sky+ app become your TV’s virtual remote control. As you’re enjoying your Sky TV, just tap the remote control icon in the top right corner of your iPhone or iPod Touch screen and you’ll have the power at your fingertips.

It’s all about touch: tap or swipe the screen to pause, rewind or fast forward the action. Fancy watching something else? Use the virtual keypad to enter a channel number, swipe up or down to change channel, or tap your desired channel’s logo. It’s that simple.

Manage your Planner

You don’t need to manage your Planner using your TV anymore. Now you can do it all with the Sky+ app so there’s no interruption to your Sky TV viewing experience.

You’ll be able to see details of all your recordings on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Effortlessly scroll through to find what you’d like to watch. When you’re ready to view, just tap the Watch button and the show will begin playing on your TV.

You can also check for upcoming reminders or recordings, and with a tap, even delete anything you’d no longer like to keep.

Your perfect viewing companion

The app is a brilliant way to discover something new to watch. Use the iPhone in-app keyboard to search the TV Guide and Planner, or check for hourly recommendations from the seven-day TV Guide.

Also, we’ll recommend shows that you may like, and give you a convenient choice of times to watch or record them.
Plus we’ve made the Sky+ app even easier to use for familiar functions like adding reminders and recording requests.

Press Release:

Sky+ transforms iPhone into a remote control

– Update to Sky+ app lets Sky customers use iPhone and iPod touch to change channels, as well as play, pause and rewind TV –

13th November 2012 – Sky+ continues to improve the way we watch TV by today unveiling an update to the Sky+ app that transforms the iPhone and iPod touch into a remote control, following these features being introduced on Sky+ for iPad earlier this year.

The latest update to the Sky+ app for iPhone means people can now use the app to change channels as they watch live TV, and even pause, play and rewind TV with a simple swipe or tap of their finger on the screen of their phone. The app now also offers Sky TV customers full access to their Sky+ planner through their iPhone, meaning that people can browse all their existing recordings on their Sky+HD set-top box, as well as set up and delete recordings on their planner – all without interrupting viewing on the main TV.

All Sky customers need to do to enjoy the latest extra features is connect their Sky+HD box to the same WiFi network as their iOS device. Sky customers are already able to enjoy the remote control function and access to their Sky+ planner on iPad, and the new features will be coming to Android handsets in the coming months.

The new update is just the most recent addition to the popular Sky+ app, which makes it really simple and easy to find out about and plan great TV to watch. Other useful features of the app include being able to browse the entire week’s TV from a smartphone through a user-friendly TV Guide, as well as remote record both individual programmes and entire series through the app while away from home – meaning Sky customers never need miss a single episode of their favourite TV show or series ever again.

Launched in 2009, the Sky+ app has been downloaded more than 5 million times and now attracts an average of more than 1.2 million unique users each month. The app sits alongside a range of leading mobile apps available to Sky customers at no extra charge, including the award-winning Sky Go. Offering Sky customers easy and convenient access to up to 43 channels live and on demand through both 3G and WiFi connections, Sky Go is available across a range of internet-connected devices including iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and selected Android smartphones.

Luke Bradley-Jones, Brand Director, TV Products, comments: “People use their phones as a one-stop-shop to manage virtually every aspect of their lives – whether organising their diary, checking their bank balance or paying bills – so why not use it to control their TV too? Having received great feedback about these features when we introduced them to the Sky+ app for iPad earlier this year, it’s great to now be making them available on iPhone too, which is obviously the ideal size for use as a remote control.

“Combined with the convenience of also being able to remotely record programmes from their phone while out and about, the Sky+ app is cementing its position as the ultimate TV gadget, helping millions of our customers get more great value from their Sky subscription both in and out of the home.”
