According to a report from The Electronic Times Internet (etnews) – a Seoul based electronics and technology news website. LG Electronics and Pantech are set to introduce Full-HD flagship smartphones in February 2013.
The report states that LG Electronics is expected to introduce its next flagship smartphone at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013 to be held in Spain in February 2013. The smartphone in question is likely to be equipped with a 5.5-inch full-HD (1920×1080) panel featuring a pixel density of 400 pixels per inch (ppi). The panel will be introduce at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013 in early January, according to the article.
In addition, Pantech has also decided to launch a similar full-HD smartphone next month. The company is apparently in talks with telecom operators for the release of the product.
These moves by LG Electronics and Pantech are in anticipation of smartphones set to be release by Samsung Electronics and Apple later this year. The Samsung Galaxy S IV is likely to be release this April, while Apple’s iPhone 5S will come out in the first half of this year. Both of these smartphones are set to feature full HD display. However, given Apple’s reluctance to create fragmentation in its iPhone product line, it’s unlikely that the display resolution will increase from the one seen in the iPhone 5.
On the hand, Samsung Galaxy S IV may very well come with a full HD AMOLED display if rumors are to be believed.
