Apple is reportedly planning to establish an R&D team in Taiwan to develop products such as the iPhone and has already attracted the attention of many IT engineers in Taiwan, Max Wang and Joseph Tsai report for Digitimes. “Some market watchers even speculate that Apple may also establish a maintenance center for after-sales services.”
According to the report, Apple may have been lured by the prospect of excellent R&D engineers, low labor costs and increasingly good relationship with Tiawan’s ODMs and component makers.
“In addition to Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) and Pegatron Technology, Apple is also reportedly considering forming partnerships with other Taiwan-based makers such as Wistron and Compal Communications to diversify risks and lower costs,” according to the report.
