Rumors about Apple’s iWatch project has recently taken the spotlight away from Apple rumored iTV. However, a new report from Digitimes indicates that the Cupertino-based company is interested in procuring 55- and 65-inch Ultra HD TV panels from LG Display.
“Rumors are circulating in the market that Apple is interested in purchasing 55- and 65-inch Ultra HD TV panels from LG Display,” Julian Ho and Alex Wolfgram report for Digitimes. “However, the rumors state that Apple is still testing the technology and has yet to finalize its orders with LG.”
According to the report, other players such as, “Sony is also reportedly in talks with LG over the panels, as well as with Taiwan-based AU Optronics (AUO), which is expected to produce high-end Ultra HD TV panels by 2014.”
“The rumors added that Apple may also consider Sharp as a potential supplier,” the report said.
Earlier this year, we received information from a reliable source that Apple is indeed working on a full-fledge TV project that is due to be released later this year.
Apple CEO Tim Cook stated that the company will be launching exciting new product category later this year. A recent report has ruled out the launch of the iWatch until late 2014.
Perhaps the iTV will make its appearance this year.
