Vic Gundotra: “I Learned From The Example Of A Friend Who Used To Work At Apple”

  • December 16, 2013

The Steve Jobs passion for building products that provides outstanding user experiences continues to influence top executives around the world today. This was clearly evident in my conversation with Vivek “Vic” Gundotra, Senior Vice President, Social for Google on Google + on Sunday.

It all started with a post of a video reviewing an iPhone wallet case  in the largest Apple community on Google +. A member of the community pointed out that the video wasn’t available in the Google + app and Safari on iOS devices.

This issue was brought to the attention of the Google + team and to everyone’s surprise the first person to respond was the boss himself  – Vic Gundotra.

Here’s an excerpt  conversation with Vivek “Vic” Gundotra:

I’ve got an Wallet Case for the iPhone 4S from AYE. It has some Credit Card pockets. The quality seems quite good, but I am not sure I will use it because I don’t like cases that you have to open to get to the screen.

I’ve read your post here – https://plus.google.com/+VicGundotra/posts/gcSStkKxXTw and thought it was very moving at the time given the relationship between the two companies. This level of care for outstanding user experience by Steve Jobs is what attracted me to the company. It’s great to see someone like yourself adapting the same philosophy. With individuals like you leading the company, Google is definitely on up.
