In an article profiling the wearable industry, the New York Times is reporting that Apple’s design guru – Jony Ive is very bullish on the prospective of his company upcoming wearable device dubbed the “iWatch“. A designer currently working for the company told the publication that the iWatch will spell “trouble” for Switzerland on its released, according to Jony Ive.
Here’s the quote from the piece:
According to a designer who works at Apple, Jonathan Ive, Apple’s design chief, in bragging about how cool he thought the iWatch was shaping up to be, gleefully said Switzerland is in trouble — though he chose a much bolder term for “trouble” to express how he thought the watchmaking nation might be in a tough predicament when Apple’s watch comes out
With Apple’s track record of disrupting industries, it will be a bold move to bet against the company doing the same in the wearable market.
The article pointed out that for the wearable to be successful, companies will have focus on the look and feel of their products – marrying technology with fashion. The hiring of former Yves Saint Laurent CEO Paul Deneve and Yves Saint Laurent’s Europe President and Retail Head Catherine Monier suggests the company is definitely thinking along these lines. And let’s not forget that the head of Apple Retail is former CEO of Burberry, Angela Ahrendts.
