Yesterday we published a few low resolution images of the moulding tools Foxconn is using to produce the rumored 4.7-inch iPhone 6. Today, Nowhereelse.fr has more high resolution images of the moulding equipment.

The folks at the French tech blog came up a fascinating theory that the molding equipmemt will yield an iPhone with a 4.7-inch display:

“Some of the holes that were drilled into the block in fact serve to fix the inserts which will form a crude which is then machined housing (finishes) using a CNC milling machine.

Thus, and assuming that my theory is correct, the dimensions of the box will be determined by the widest part and not the bottom of the base .

In this assumption, I started to resize the photo to scale against it based on the template of the iPhone 4s which was placed on the edge of the block for this purpose. I then measured the dimensions of the widest part of the box which is approximately 138mm long by 64mm wide .

Finally, I superimposed the resized photo of an iPhone 5s to try to determine the approximate size of the device screen. Imagine that in this case, the screen would measure 12cm diagonal is exactly 4.7 inches . Size as the rumor just ready to display one of two iPhone to be released in this year.

Coincidentally or not, if the boxes iPhone 6 will actually be made using this base molding and assuming that my calculations are correct, this model should measure approximately 138mm long by 64mm wide and be fitted a screen of 4.7 inches.”
