Digitimes: Apple to Move Mac Mini Production Back to the US

Apple mac mini manufacture in US Reporting for Digitimes, Aaron Lee and Joseph Tsai state that, Apple and Hon Hai Precision Industry ( Foxconn Electronics) is looking to move production of Mac Mini back to US based on information from their sources.

News of Apple’s plan to manufacture computers has hit the web recently following CEO Tim Cook comments that  the company would invest $100 million in producing some of its Mac computers in the United States.

“Currently, Foxconn has about 15 operating bases in the US and the company reportedly plans to start recruiting workers in 2013 for new automated production lines,” report Aaron Lee and Joseph Tsai. “Mac mini shipments are expected to reach 1.4 million units in 2012, up more than 40% on year, and with the specification upgrade in October 2012, shipments are expected to rise another 30% on year to 1.8 million units in 2013, according to the latest figures from Digitimes Research.”

Apple’s other major OEM partner Quanta Computer also has two operating bases in the US, located in Fremont, California and Nashville, Tennessee.
